Face Shield - How They Protect the Lids

A face shield, a protective item of personal protective gear, aims to cover the entire face of the wearer to prevent direct contact with hazardous materials or flying objects. The term "face shield" is also used for the entire face and head, sometimes used interchangeably. A face shield can be worn in any situation where protection against chemical or acid splash is necessary. 

The droplets can be small enough to enter the cheek and nasal cavities. The material that is most commonly used in face shields is a fiberglass mesh. The mesh is often coated with an anti-fog fluid that will reduce condensation so the wearer can see clearly through the mask. The actual design of the face shield may vary depending on the situation or application. In some cases, a rigid plastic mask will provide the maximum level of protection.

These items are often used by hospitals and other medical professionals when treating patients, as well as individuals who work in the cleaning and sanitation industries. However, they are also commonly worn by everyday people who tend to handle themselves while in situations where the wearing of protective eyewear and equipment is not appropriate. Droplets are small enough to enter the eyes and enter the sinuses, which can cause painful burning and itching.
